I have long been a fan of the King of Horror. I was introduced to him in the best way possible: a collection of short stories (specifically Skeleton Crew). I do love his longer works but I happen to think he is at his best when the story is short but sweet.
You Like it Darker was like being introduced to him all over again. Nostalgic. Quintessential King. The shortest story in the collection literally left my jaw dropping (The Fifth Step). We get a bit of a Cujo sequel with Rattlesnakes and while I wouldn't describe it as a nice catch up with old friends given the circumstances, it was a great visit nonetheless.
Danny Coughlin's Bad Dream is perfection.
I'm sad that I cannot read it again for the first time. It has been many years since I have read his other collections so reading them again may feel like the first time. Think I will have to test that theory.
